Sankofa Freedom Academy High School SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS 2016 The following is the required summer reading for the students. There is one mandatory book for each grade level with the exception of 12th grade. Nubia has 2 mandatory books. You are to select two(12th grade only one) additional books for a total of three books. Journal Writing: Composition notebook strictly for your summer reading. Divide your com Journal writing allows you to record YOUR thoughts and YOUR ideas about the selection as you are reading. Keep your journal handy as you are reading. Use your Post-Its notes to earmark important plot points, settings, favorite parts of the story, and vocabulary words. Literature journals should be set up in the standard format you are familiar with. You are to complete the journal assignment for each novel or short story read. Vocabulary Enhancement Assignment: Choose 20 significant vocabulary words from each summer reading text. These words should be crucial to the meaning of the book.
